Why Am I Not Surprised

From Sherdog.com

Wednesday, July 22, 2009
by Loretta Hunt (lhunt@sherdog.com)

Affliction Entertainment and M-1 Global are looking for a new opponent to face Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction “Trilogy” on Aug. 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Multiple sources have told Sherdog.com that the California State Athletic Commission will not license Josh Barnett after a positive test result. Calls to Affliction Entertainment were not immediately returned. The CSAC said a comprehensive statement would be issued Wednesday.

Barnett said he had not been notified of any issues with his eligibility as of Tuesday evening.

“I took my test three weeks ago. I would have thought I would have heard something by now,” Barnett told Sherdog.com.

The only thing that comes to mind is steroids as he has been busted before. I honestly understand Mr. Barnett. If I was about to face that man I think I would do anything in my power to try and stay alive. A big thumbs up though for screwing Affliction like that, it just means that Fedor is running out of quality opponents outside of the UFC. I think Buentello should get the fight as he is the only replacement I see that will put on a good show. In the end I was not all that excited about this fight because I am 99.9% sure that Barnett would have gotten smashed. I will still be waiting for UFC103 which has two excellent matchups with BJ Penn facing Kenny Florian for the lightweight belt and Forrest Griffin attempting to end Anderson Silva’s ridiculous win streak.

UPDATE:

Affliction has chosen Vitor Belfort to step in and face Fedor. Great matchmaking Affliction! You just put a natural middleweight in the ring with a giant killer. In all fairness Fedor has always been a small heavyweight, but he has proven time and time again that he is up to the challenge of facing bigger guys. At least Vitor really has nothing to lose in this fight and I am sure they are going to compensate him well.

Some Art You Should Support

Just a quick post with links to some artists that you should check out.

I just saw Eskimo Joe for the first time a bit ago at the Southside festival. They absolutely rocked it!

Codes is a band from Ireland and they are starting to blow up on this side of the pond. They most recently played at the Oxygen festival in Ireland.

Jessie Smith is a good friend of mine and one of the sickest artists out there right now. He continues to blow my mind with his talents.

Guys from Human Giant and Reno 911 remake a classic scene.

One quick FAIL I saw when parking my bike last night. Why bother?

That Riddle is a tricky one

So I just got back home after enjoying the new Harry Potter film, and I have to recommend that you go and see it if you haven’t already. It is definitely darker than the others, but it’s nothing a child couldn’t handle. I found the Dark Crystal to be much more disturbing and damaging to young minds. There were quite a few funny moments which the annoying crowd pointed out with a bit to much enthusiasm. God bless my friend Damo for laying down the law at intermission in order to spare us from the running commentary. I would also like to thank the theater for thinking of me when installing those benches in the back. Sprawled out is the only way to properly enjoy some excellent wizardry.

Here’s To You…

Misses not going to hold the door for me this morning. There is no way you could have known that I was walking towards that door to get into the building so I forgive you. We have only worked together for four years so I will cut you a little slack. You will never hear anyone say that I am a complete gentleman, but I do try to conform to normal standards of social behavior such as holding the door open for people within the door holding zone. Now I know that the zone can be a tricky bastard, but I am sure we can all agree that 10 steps is fair. I actually like to hold the door open for people just outside the zone just to see what path they choose. I can just see those neurons flashing trying to decide if they should run the 15 steps or make me wait with the door open. These are the simple little pleasures that I think more of us need to stop to enjoy. Some of us also need to stop to hold the door open so I don’t have to dig in my pocket for my keys.

That Place With a Castle On The Hill

HeidelbergWith my first official post I would like to introduce you to the city I call home. Heidelberg is situated in a valley along the Neckar river in the state of Baden-Wurtemberg. It is quite a small city covering about 42 sq. mi with a population of around 140,000. The city is very rich in history and can trace its roots as far back as the 5th century BC. Beautiful to an almost disgusting degree, Heidelberg has become one of the most visited cities in Europe. On any given day downtown, you can be sure that about 70% of the people are not from around here. This is a bit of a nuisance at times to us locals, but tourism is what this place survives on. I enjoy the fact that I am in numerous photo albums of Asian tourists due to the fact that I long ago stopped waiting for people creating memories.

Heidelberg is also the home of Ruprecht Karls University, more commonly known as the University of Heidelberg. It is the oldest univeristy in Germany and has become very international with over 20% of its student body coming from foreign countries.

A good friend of mine came here almost three years ago for a short visit and found she just couldn’t leave. This is a story that you will hear repeated often here as Heidelberg has the eerie ability to make people stay. Ich Hab’ Mein Herz in Heidelberg Verloren (I Lost My Heart in Heidelberg) is a famous song that every Heidelberger knows, and every tourist will. The city has now become an international meeting ground and the official language has unofficially changed to English. I don’t know of many other places where you can meet people from so many different places and backgrounds. This cultural diversity really brings this city to life and is what I think makes Heidelberg unique and unforgettable. Should you ever visit, be sure to get into contact with me and I will be glad to share some tips and maybe even show you around. This was just a short introduction that you hopefully enjoyed. I will continue to post articles on sites and events  in the Rhein Necker region.
